Genuine Pan-Asian Dines and Drinks at Tanuki

June 4, 2017

Located on the corner of Alton Road and 11th street, Tanuki is bringing a truly unique Asian cuisine to South Beach. With Chef Drew at the helm and a knowledgeable and attentive team to back him, they have set themselves up for success. Tanuki’s Happy Hour offers select for $8 cocktails, $5 beers, $6 wines and spirits, and $6 sakes every day from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. If it wasn’t enough, their Happy Hour also includes some savory bites for $5.

During our dinner, we enjoyed some delicious gluten-free options like Uni Rice Crackers*, Aburi Salmon Roll, Tuna Tartare*, Salmon with Pear, and a Smoked Crab Summer Roll. Luckily, we heard about their “Secret Menu” and were able to enjoy the Toto Tiradito: Plump slices of toro tuna drizzled with dehydrated and smoked olive oil. Even though it regularly isn’t gluten free, we were able to have a gluten free version of their Peking Duck Fried Rice; crunchy and savory and absolutely perfect. For dessert, we enjoyed their decadent Green Tea Fondant as well as their seasonally refreshing Mango Chia.

If we’ve failed to convince you thus far, then this next section will surely do the trick. At Tanuki attention to detail is everything. We see it in all of the beautifully presented plates but especially in their drinks. The preparation and presentation is just incredible. All of the drinkware for cocktails was masterfully designed by Tanuki’s very creative head mixologist Thomas Latosone and skillfully crafted by the very talented local ceramic artist Juliana Buka. They’re exclusively made for the restaurant and for each individual drink.

Genuine Pan-Asian cuisine, executed properly, is hard to come by… and having them be gluten free is nearly impossible. Tanuki’s options are fresh, tasty, and true to their cuisine. We would recommend this place to anyone looking for a genuinely great experience in South Beach. Don’t forget about their Happy Hour every day from 5 PM – 7 PM!
