Well, it looks like Matthew Kenney has done it again with his second plant-based restaurant in Miami: plnthouse. Pulling from his hugely successful (and our personal favorite raw vegan restaurant) Plant Food + Wine, Matthew has developed a well-deserved hype around plant-based eating. With his expert chefs at the helm and a deliciously creative menu, it’s no wonder this plant-based concept is becoming increasingly popular.
Located inside the beautiful and chic 1 Hotel on South Beach, this oasis within hotel walls not only serves up some delicious plant based foods, but it’s ambiance provides a level of tranquility and peace you could only find inside a spa. Their menu holds an incredible array of power foods, fresh cold pressed juices, smoothies, bowls, and some amazing vegan breakfast and lunch items.
Our visit to plnthouse was an amazing one starting off with some of their house made Passion Fruit Kombucha and Ginger Beer; both really refreshing and mandatory to drink in pairs! Side note for you spa lovers, a glass of the kombucha is complimentary with any spa service!
What’s also amazing about their menu is how versatile it is! They can turn any of their fruit bowls into a smoothie and vice-versa. We gave this a try with their Tropical Pitaya and Cacao Nut bowls. Both bowls are loaded with super-food goodness, guaranteed to power-up your day. Additionally, we tried their Golden One bowl in it’s true form and boy were we impressed with how beautifully it was presented and how it tasted.
Of course, we were dying to try some of the solid food options so we started with an order of their Thai Rice Paper Wraps and a bowl of their French Lentil Pate. The Pate is accompanied by small crispy rice crackers to help scoop the flavorful bowl of lentil goodness. It’s a great example of how vegan alternatives to animal foods can really be delicious.
If you’re a visitor of the hotel (or have a hankering for some hearty and healthy breakfast foods), we definitely recommend going to plnthouse for their surprisingly delicious Garbanzo Scramble: Roasted and Steamed Vegetables, sprinkled with herbs and topped with an amazing Chipotle Aioli. Please don’t let the veggies scare you away, this bowl is full of so much goodness, it’s easy to forget you’re actually just eating veggies and legumes.
If you’re not in the mood for breakfast-style foods, order the One Bowl or the Zucchini Noodle Bowl. On the latter, the cashew ricotta and pistachio pesto is reason enough to give these “zoodles” a try. However, don’t get too full as you need to leave some room for dessert. We couldn’t leave without sampling some of their delicious vegan dessert options. The cheesecake, milk & cookies, and muffins are decadent, rich, thick, and full of flavor. They’re beyond description and are the perfect end to any of the smoothies, bowls, or dishes you enjoy at plnthouse.
Plnthouse has an array of different options worth checking out. The restaurant is oceanside and poolside and hosts some pretty interesting events. After you grab a bite to eat, we definitely recommend checking them out for their Mind and Movement classes every 1st Friday of the month, offering yoga and meditation for the public to enjoy.
With so much goodness to offer, it’s no wonder plnthouse is standing out on its own and making good, clean eating accessible to all.
