Traditional Spanish restaurants are a dime a dozen in Miami, but many turn out to be a big disappointment, leaving you feeling unsatisfied and with an empty wallet. Piripi, located in The Shops at Merrick Park, is a Spanish restaurant with a twist, providing their guests a delicious variety of both classic and experimental options (a large number of which are thankfully gluten-free).
In Spain, the word “Piripi” is used to describe the state of being tipsy or feeling “a sensation of slight intoxication where reality begins to seem like a dream.” Piripi has a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere… perfect for any dining experience, from a luxurious dinner date down to the casual walk-in. Whatever the reason, Piripi is there to make sure you’re enjoying your time out, providing you with quality service every step of the way.
Picking something delicious isn’t a challenge here; everything on the menu is great! However, if you’re in a curious mood and have an adventurous palate, below is a list of some of our favorite dishes. The best part of all is everything they serve is meant to be shared. Due to their generous portions, ordering an appetizer, an entree, and dessert will surely satisfy a party of two.
Recommended Piripi Dishes:
We started our dining experience with an order of Shishito peppers; savory, salty and an instant crowd pleaser, you can’t go wrong with this vibrantly colored dish. Make sure to eat them the minute they’re placed on your table, as they are best when they’re fresh out of the kitchen and will surely be gone in minutes!
Next on our favorites list is the Grilled Octopus; tender and crunchy all at once. This appetizer is cooked to perfection, full of flavor, and definitely a must have.
Now of course this next one isn’t really a surprise to our readers, but our favorite dish had to be the pork belly. Glazed with a sweet caramalized sauce, perfectly cooked so that when you stick your fork in it just falls apart. We can’t say enough about this dish, but if you try only one thing, this should probably be it. If you’re gluten-intolerant, be sure to ask for this dish without the oatmeal granola topping!
Last and definitely not least, we can’t review a Spanish restaurant without tasting their Paella. They have a huge variety of Paella as it is the heart of their menu. They are made fresh to order, completely gluten and dairy free. We chose to forego the traditional plate of yellow rice and seafood, and eat adventurously ordering the Paella Negra; seasoned with sofrito and squid with black squid ink dish. We were certain the dish would be overpowered with the flavor of the sea, but this black Paella was a pleasant surprise to us all. Very fresh, very tasty… We highly recommend it. If you’re feeling adventurous, give it a try… It will not disappoint!
Now if you’re the type who likes to finish every meal with a little something sweet, don’t worry we’ve got you covered! Piripi has the best tasting Crema Catalana in Miami and its sure to hit the spot. If you think you’re not going to leave absolutely stuffed, you’ve got another thing coming!
If you’re not yet convinced, maybe the fact that they really honor the women of the community by hosting Señorita Wednesdays, will have you sold. Señorita Wednesdays is a happy hour geared towards women featuring a prominent female guest speaker from the community, discussing projects and organizations they are passionate about. During Señorita Wednesdays, any women in attendance will receive complimentary champagne from 4 PM – 8 PM.
Piripi is definitely a treat; it’s really in a category of its own. They are open and willing to accommodate to any dietary food restriction and serve some of the best Spanish food in town. Plan a visit for a boozy brunch this coming weekend or a casual night out during the week and as they like to say “if you don’t leave a little ‘Piripi’, then we didn’t do our job!”
