Charcoal Garden Bar + Grill is the first full-service restaurant located at The Wynwood Yard, and is one of the country’s first restaurants built entirely out of modified shipping containers. Seating is available indoors in the air-conditioned conservatory dining container and outdoors in the patio under a retractable Roman shade. The menu highlights off-the-industrial-grid meats, fish and seafood, seasonal vegetable dishes, an impressive choice of globally-inspired sauces, and a thoughtful selection of draft wines as well as craft beers and cocktails.
During our visit we had the amazing pleasure of trying out their bright new Summer menu. Consisting of fresh flavors and loaded with beautifully vibrant colors, like the Salmon Gravlox, a 36-hour, dill-cured salmom with pickled red onions, and a Swedish dill-mustard sauce. Or like the fresh watermelon salad, studded with Bulgarian feta, pickled red onions, green olive oil, garden mint and Maldon salt. With so many wonderfully inspired dishes, it’s really no wonder why they’re a permanent fixture at The Yard.
The summer menu also offers whole branzino, perfectly grilled and simply flavored with olive oil, herbs and sea salt or the robust choucroute garnie platter with grilled, locally-sourced Proper sausage, slow Josper-roasted pork belly and fall-off-the-bone pork shoulder accompanied by tiny potatoes and grainy dijon. Each dish is respectably portioned and can be perfect for sharing or eating all on your own, like the gargantuan Beef Hanger Steak. You can also satisfy your sweet tooth with desserts like their Bananas Josper a nod to the classic bananas foster, flash-caramelized in the Josper and served with a scoop of their house-made vanilla ice cream. which you can also have on it’s own or affogato style (our personal favorite).
To top it all off, this summer only CHARCOAL offers half-off any and all wine bottles with dinner, including wine on tap, when ordered between 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. on Fridays through Sundays.
